Located right downtown in Hirafu village in the center of the Niseko resort, J-Sekka is the go-to spot for an upscale apres-ski coffee or cocktail. The decor here is very nice, modern, and crisp. Although no one would likely complain if you tromp in with muddy ski boots right off the mountain, the atmosphere lends itself more to a change of clothes and a relaxed gathering with friends. In the summer it’s common to see people sipping gourment lattes as they tap away on the complimentary computers in the corner of the deli. The menu features local ingredients like specialty cheeses, locally grown produce, venison, and an extensive imported wine list. Prices are definitely on the high side, but worth it for the atmosphere, convenient location, and local specialties. And the staff are very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the area, and all speak good English. There is also accommodation on site for those who are lucky enough to book it early. The space is divided into restaurant and deli, and both get rave reviews. There are a variety of local jams and items like smoked salmon which can make for good souvenirs to bring back home. In the evening the bar with its comfortable lounge chairs, sake tasting, and open fireplace makes for a very cozy place to relax.
