Kutchan Natural History Museum

The Kutchan Natural History Museum is the only local museum that showcases the nature, lives and culture of olden days in Kutchan Town and surrounding areas with a unique way to exhibit their collections. Visitors can enjoy a hands-on experience throughout most of the exhibition. If you are looking for a way to add to your cultural experiences while on your summer or winter stay, head to the Kutchan Natural History Museum. This museum consists of two fascinating displays. First, the nature and environment zone which includes an interactive 40-mat wide gigantic aerial photo which you can actually walk on with preserved animal and plant displays. Second, a living and culture exhibit of old Kutchan Town: Kimono wedding dresses from 100 years ago, daily goods, school life, children’s toys, local railway goods and more. The Kutchan Natural History Museum is located next to the Shu Ogawara Museum of Art with a combined discount ticket available. These museums have wide parking space, and are surrounded by pleasant grounds making it an ideal picnic location. Directions: 5 min. drive from JR Kutchan station, on the North 6 road between route 5 and route 393.
