Momiji Gallery, located right in downtown Hirafu, is the product of Australian artist Margo Bartley’s passion for Japanese art, cultural artifacts and the Niseko area. She fell in love with the area on a ski trip several years ago and became a regular annual visitor, opening the gallery in 2010. The gallery exhibits art made by renowned Hokkaido artists working across mediums as diverse as oils, bronze, etchings and stunning photography, and also offers a range of unique antiques, gifts, postcards and gourmet cookies for sale. The aim is to offer both locals and visitors alike a taste of the incredibly rich and diverse Japanese art & cultural scene with a selection of art from both local artists and traditional Japanese items. For those looking to take home some authentic Japanese culture, Momiji has an ever-expanding range of rare antiques from the Edo to Showa period of Japanese history. The collection includes traditional furniture, plates and serving implements, exquisite dolls and carved sculptures, hanging scrolls and more.
